A new bill is being debated in the Tourism and Recreation committee. House Bill 73 would have all Pennsylvania schools start the academic year after Labor Day. Many districts currently begin mid-August and some don't want to be told when they have to start. Some also say a later start date means less time to prepare for standardized tests.
