(Erie, PA) -- According to new data from the U.S. Census Bureau, Pennsylvania is among the bottom half of U.S. states for houses sitting unoccupied. A new report from Lending Tree, using housing market data from the last census, says Pennsylvania ranks 38th in the country with just over 574,000 empty homes out of more than 4.5 million housing units. The report showed Pennsylvania's vacancy rate at around 9.9% , with an average median home value of $203,000.  Pennsylvania's ranking placed it higher than all of its neighbors except New Jersey, Ohio, and Maryland.
