A heat advisory is in effect for the Harrisburg area starting today (Tuesday, July 14). The National Weather Service has issued the advisory due to expected heat index values that could reach up to 102 degrees in central Pennsylvania, affecting Dauphin and Lebanon Counties. The advisory begins at 11 a.m. and will continue through tomorrow night.

The advisory also covers other counties in the Susquehanna Valley, including Cumberland, Adams, York, and Lancaster. The heat index values may rise to 103 degrees on both Thursday and Friday. The combination of high temperatures and humidity increases the risk of heat-related illnesses.

Residents are advised to take precautions, such as staying hydrated, avoiding prolonged outdoor activities, and checking on vulnerable individuals. While some showers and thunderstorms may occur in the afternoons, offering brief relief, the overall humidity will remain high. Overnight temperatures are expected to stay above 70 degrees, providing little respite from the heat.
