YouTube TV is issuing $20 credits to subscribers as negotiations with Disney remain unresolved. As of Monday (November 10), YouTube TV customers still do not have access to Disney-owned channels, including ESPN and ABC, after the companies failed to reach a new carriage agreement. The channels were removed on October 30, affecting sports coverage during college football and basketball seasons.
The credits, which aim to compensate for the loss of these channels, will be applied to subscribers' next billing statements. According to Tom's Guide, all credits should be issued by November 12. YouTube TV, the fourth-largest television distributor in the U.S. with approximately 10 million subscribers, hopes to resolve the issue soon. If an agreement is reached, Disney channels will be restored quickly, possibly in time for "Monday Night Football."
The standoff stems from disagreements over per-subscriber fees. Google, YouTube's parent company, accuses Disney of demanding excessive fees, while Disney claims Google seeks preferential terms below market rates. The ongoing dispute has led Disney to encourage consumers to voice complaints to YouTube TV.
Subscribers looking for alternatives can consider other services like Hulu + Live TV, which currently offers a discount. Meanwhile, YouTube TV remains committed to negotiating a deal with Disney to restore the channels as soon as possible, as noted by PCMag.
