Harrisburg Police Dog Given Ceremony Upon Retirement due to Cancer

(Harrisburg, PA) -- Harrisburg Police officers and leaders have held a retirement ceremony for a canine officer who's being treated for lymphoma. Zoe, a Dutch Shepard, is the department's first female K-9 officer. She was given her final walk in front of saluting officers on Monday morning and also received a radio sendoff from Dauphin County 911. Her handler, Corporal Donald Bender, says Zoe was with the department for seven years. Her assignments included searching buildings, searching for narcotics and assisting in taking 50 people into custody. She is also credited with finding nearly nine kilos of cocaine and 35 pounds of marijuana.
