Girls Wrestling Becomes Officially Sanctioned Sport in Pennsylvania

(Mechanicsville, PA) -- The movement to make girls wrestling an officially sanctioned sport in Pennsylvania has taken a big step. Pennridge School District in Bucks County became the 100th school to launch a girls wrestling program Tuesday and with that decision, girls wrestling now qualifies for full sponsorship as a sport by the P-I-A-A. Supporters say adding girls wrestling increases the number of winter sport options for girls and also increases higher sports opportunities for young women. Over 115 colleges and universities offer women's wrestling programs. Nine of those are in Pennsylvania.
