Pennsylvania State Police, Millersburg School District to Conduct Critical Incident Response Exercise
MILLERSBURG, Pa. (August 4, 2026) — The Pennsylvania State Police will partner with the Millersburg Area School District and multiple Dauphin County emergency response agencies to conduct a large-scale Critical Incident Response Exercise on Wednesday, August 5, 2026.
The training exercise is scheduled to take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Millersburg Area School District and is designed to enhance coordination, preparedness, and response capabilities in the event of a school-based emergency.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, the modified full-scale exercise will bring together law enforcement officers, firefighters, emergency medical personnel, and school staff in a realistic training environment focused on responding to an active shooter threat. Officials say the exercise is intended to provide valuable hands-on experience while strengthening interagency cooperation and school safety planning.
Residents can expect a significant emergency response presence throughout the day in the area surrounding the school, located at 799 Center Street in Millersburg. Numerous resources will be involved in the training, including Pennsylvania State Police Aviation and a Life Lion medical helicopter.
Officials emphasized that the event is strictly a training exercise and has been planned proactively to improve readiness and response times during critical incidents.
Media representatives have been invited to observe the exercise from a designated staging area located on North Street near Seal Park, where they will have a view of the training activities. Media access is scheduled for 10 a.m.
