Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman has called on Senator Bernie Sanders to withdraw his endorsement of Graham Platner, a Democratic candidate in the Maine Senate race. Fetterman's request comes after a woman accused Platner of sexual assault, an allegation Platner denies. Fetterman described Platner as "an absolute dirt bag and a predator" and urged Sanders to apologize to the victims.
The accusations against Platner have led to significant political fallout. According to The Washington Post, several top Democratic leaders and the state Democratic Party have rescinded their endorsements and called for Platner to end his campaign. Platner, who has faced other controversies, emerged victorious in the Democratic primary but now faces incumbent Senator Susan Collins in the upcoming election.
NBC News reports that Platner's candidacy is faltering, threatening Democratic hopes to secure a Senate majority. Platner has been accused of sending inappropriate messages and making controversial statements in the past, but he maintains that the allegations of physical intimidation are false.
In an interview with The Hill, Fetterman criticized Platner's behavior, dismissing his attempts at redemption. Despite the controversies, Fetterman affirmed his Democratic allegiance and stated he would not support Collins.
