Police: Man Fled To Puerto Rico After Rape And Murder

Police in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, are searching for Rafael Ivan Duran-Malave, 32, who is accused of raping and murdering his 25-year-old girlfriend, Amanda Abeana Makor. Authorities say Duran-Malave fled to Puerto Rico on March 28, the same day Makor was killed.

Makor's body was discovered on March 30 in the bathroom of her apartment on Progress Avenue in Susquehanna Township. According to police, an autopsy revealed she died from asphyxia due to multiple traumatic injuries, including strangulation and massive chest compression. The Dauphin County Coroner's Office ruled her death a homicide and found evidence of rape.

Investigators believe Duran-Malave, who lived with Makor, fled to Puerto Rico shortly after the crime. Surveillance footage and license plate readers captured him driving Makor's car, a 2006 Toyota Camry, to Harrisburg International Airport. The car was later found in the airport's parking area.

Duran-Malave is charged with criminal homicide and rape. Police have issued a warrant for his arrest and urge anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact the Susquehanna Township Police Department at 717-652-8265 or email dbrown@susquehannatwp.com.
