A Cumberland County husband and wife were found dead Saturday morning inside their Silver Spring Township home in what authorities have ruled a murder-suicide, the Cumberland County Coroner's Office announced.
According to Coroner Charley Hall, Scott Whitcomb, 69, shot his wife, Robin Whitcomb, 63, in the head before turning the gun on himself at their home at 404 Sorbie Lane in the Millfording Highlands neighborhood. Robin's death was ruled a homicide, and Scott's was ruled a suicide.
Silver Spring Township police said they received a 911 call at approximately 10:11 a.m. on Saturday (March 21) reporting a domestic incident with shots fired. Officers responded and found both victims dead inside the home.
Silver Spring Township Police Chief Christopher Raubenstine said the scene was contained to the inside of the home and was cleared by approximately 1:15 p.m. In a statement, Chief Raubenstine said, "Silver Spring Township Police were dispatched to a residence in the 400 block of Sorbie Lane for a domestic violence incident. Upon arrival, officers found that the situation was no longer active and there is no risk of danger to the public."
The Cumberland County Coroner's Office, the Cumberland County District Attorney's Office, and the Cumberland County District Attorney's Office Forensic Laboratory all assisted at the scene. No additional suspects are being sought, and authorities say there is no ongoing threat to the public.
