A Carlisle man is behind bars after police say he fired multiple shots at a vehicle carrying a mother and her child during a domestic dispute in North Middleton Township, Pennsylvania, last Friday (March 20).
Jamal Spells Jr., 25, was taken into custody following the incident, which unfolded around 1:45 p.m. at the intersection of Maplewood Drive and Pennsylvania Avenue in Schlusser. According to North Middleton Township police, Spells fired his handgun at the mother's vehicle multiple times as it left the area.
Spells reportedly told officers that his child had been taken by the child's mother, who was accompanied by two unidentified adult men at the scene. Police said the child and the other occupants of the vehicle were not hurt and cooperated with the investigation.
Authorities charged Spells with aggravated assault, reckless endangering, endangering the welfare of children, and discharging a firearm into an occupied structure. He is currently being held at Cumberland County Prison, with bail set at $250,000.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday (April 1), according to online court documents.
