Man Charged in Fatal Shooting of Wife, Sister-In-Law

In West Hempfield Township, Pennsylvania, authorities have charged Santiago Payano-Sanchez, age 63, with the fatal shooting of his estranged wife, Ana Gutierrez-Cedano, and her sister, Dominga Cedano-Cedano. The incident occurred Sunday evening (October 5) at a residence on Oak Hollow Drive.

According to the Lancaster County District Attorney's Office, Payano-Sanchez also shot his 33-year-old son, who survived and is in stable condition after emergency surgery for a gunshot wound to the stomach. Two children, ages two and seven, were present but unharmed.

The shooting followed a weekend of arguments within the household. Payano-Sanchez reportedly retrieved a gun from his waistband and opened fire. After the shooting, he called family members to apologize. First responders found both female victims deceased upon arrival. Payano-Sanchez was treated for superficial self-inflicted injuries and surrendered to police without incident.

The firearm used was legally owned by Payano-Sanchez, who had a conceal carry permit. Judge Mary Sponaugle denied him bail during a preliminary arraignment. Autopsies for the victims are scheduled for later this week. Payano-Sanchez faces charges of criminal homicide, attempted criminal homicide, aggravated assault, and other related offenses.
