The Diocese of Harrisburg expressed sorrow and concern following a tragic shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis on Wednesday (August 27). Bishop Timothy Senior described the incident as "particularly disturbing" due to its occurrence during a Mass, a sacred time for the school community. The shooting resulted in the deaths of two children and injuries to 17 others, with 14 of the injured being children. The gunman, identified as 23-year-old Robin Westman, acted alone before dying by suicide behind the church, according to Local 21 News.

Bishop Senior joined other bishops in condemning the violence, emphasizing the need for a society where individuals can worship without fear. He stated, "Our hearts go out to the victims and their families, to the faculty and staff of Annunciation, and to all who have been affected by this tragedy." The bishop called for a commitment to building a society of peace, compassion, and unity, as reported by The Catholic Witness.

In response to the shooting, the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh also extended prayers and outlined its security measures. Bishop Mark Eckman of Pittsburgh expressed the trauma felt by parents and the community, noting the diocese's ongoing efforts to enhance security at school Masses, as detailed by WTAE.

As communities across the country grapple with the aftermath, the Diocese of Harrisburg and others continue to offer support and prayers for healing and protection.
