Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, along with 21 other Democratic governors, has criticized President Donald Trump's decision to deploy the National Guard in Los Angeles. The deployment aims to address protests against immigration crackdowns, but the governors view it as an "alarming abuse of power."

The Democratic Governors Association released a statement on Sunday (June 8), expressing concern over the federal government's decision to activate the California National Guard without consulting the state's governor. They argue that this action undermines the authority of governors, who are the Commanders in Chief of their National Guard units.

According to Yahoo News, the White House plans to deploy 2,000 troops, with around 300 already in Los Angeles. The troops have been ordered to protect federal buildings amid the protests.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem defended the deployment, stating that it is necessary to ensure public safety, as California's governor has not adequately addressed the situation. However, the governors argue that local authorities should manage the situation without federal interference.

The governors also criticized U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's suggestion to mobilize active-duty marines, stating that such actions could undermine public trust and show a lack of confidence in local law enforcement.
