Harrisburg International Airport (HIA) in Pennsylvania is set to receive a significant upgrade, thanks to a federal grant of over $3 million. The funding, announced by U.S. Senators Bob Casey and John Fetterman, will be used to modernize the terminal, including replacing escalators and renovating bathrooms.
The grant is part of the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Airport Terminal Program (ATP), which was created by the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) to revitalize aging airports across the nation. "Improving the passenger experience in our airports is critical to keeping our Commonwealth moving," Senator Casey said in a statement.
The funding breakdown includes $2,449,089 for replacing escalators and $639,025 for renovating the terminal’s bathrooms. This is not the first time HIA has benefited from federal funding. In February 2024, Senators Casey and Fetterman announced a $7.5 million grant to improve passenger safety by replacing jet bridges. Since the start of 2021, HIA has received a total of $63,299,831 in federal funding.
