Person Assaulted At Democratic Rally

An elderly man was hospitalized following an assault at a Democratic rally in York County, Pennsylvania. The incident occurred on Thursday in Continental Square during a rally for York County Democrats. The details leading up to the assault are currently unknown. York City Police have a suspect in custody, who has been charged with simple assault, according to a spokesperson for the department. The suspect and the victim have not been identified by the police.

The chair of the Democratic Party of York County released a statement condemning the violence. "We are a nation born to have civil discourse that at the end of the day should end in a handshake not in violence,” the statement reads. “When we can’t even have one of the basic rights to assemble and of free speech without being physically attacked, it is not just one individual being harmed but the entirety of our democracy.”

The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries. The extent of his injuries is not known at this time. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
