Democrats Continue To Make Their Case As Impeachment Trial Continues

House Democrats will continue their opening statements in the Senate impeachment trial of President Donald Trump. During the first day of opening remarks, lead House manager Adam Schiff hammered President Trump for pressing Ukraine to investigate alleged corruption by Joe Biden and his son Hunter while delaying vital military aid to the country. He called the evidence overwhelming and damning and accused Trump of covering-up the scandal by obstructing a legitimate congressional investigation.

"The House did not take this extraordinary step lightly," Schiff said. "The president's misconduct cannot be decided at the ballot box, for we cannot be assured the vote will be fairly won."

The Democrats will have one more day to make their case for removing Trump from office. On Saturday (January 25), Trump's legal team will begin their opening statements. They will have 24 hours, spread over three days, to present their case. Once the opening statements are finished, Senators will be given two days to ask questions. On January 31, the Senate will debate whether to call additional witnesses or subpoena new documents and could potentially hold a vote on acquitting President Trump.
