An Iranian officialĀ warned of the possibility of an "all-out war"Ā if the United States retaliates for a series of attacks against oil fields in Saudi Arabia. The U.S. and Saudi Arabia have blamed the Iranian government for the attack, charges which the country has denied.
Iranian Foreign MinisterĀ Mohammad Javad ZarifĀ toldĀ CNNĀ that Iran does not "want to engage in a military confrontation," but cautioned that the country "won't blink to defend our territory."
When he was asked what would happen if either the United States or Saudi Arabia decided to retaliate for the attacks, he said it would lead to "all-out war" that would result in "a lot of casualties."
Zarif denied claims that Iran was behind the attacks and pointed out the fact that Yemen's Iranian-backed Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for the attack.Ā
"I know that we didn't do it. I know that the Houthis made a statement that they did it," he said.
President Donald Trump tweeted out the thatĀ U.S. stands "locked and loaded" to defend Saudi ArabiaĀ following the attack, whichĀ U.S. Secretary of StateĀ Mike PompeoĀ called an "act of war."
