NRA Head Tells CPAC That Gun Control Advocates "Hate Individual Freedom"

NRA chief Wayne LaPierre took the stage the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington D.C. to defend the gun-rights group from critics who are attempting to push a gun control agenda in the wake of the Valentine's Day shooting at a Florida high school. LaPierre argued that gun control activists always want to impose more restrictions on law-abiding citizens.

"They fantasize about more laws stopping what other laws have failed to stop"

LaPierre pointed out that they "don't care if their laws work," and are only pushing gun control in an effort to "get more control over people." He said that Democrats "hate the second amendment, they hate individual freedom.”

They care more about control. Their goal is to eliminate the Second Amendment and our firearms freedoms so they can eliminate all individual freedoms.

He accused them of not caring about protecting children.

The elites don’t care one wit about school children. If they truly cared, they would protect them.

He said we must increase security at our schools, so they are not easy targets for killers.

Schools must be the most hardened targets in this country, and evil must be confronted with all necessary force to protect our kids.

He ended his speech by reiterating his belief that  "the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun."

LaPierre, who has addressed the crowd at CPAC every year for at least the last ten years, was not initially listed as a speaker at the annual conservative gathering. According to the Washington Examiner, the organizers purposefully left him off the schedule as a "precaution," because of the heightened tensions around the gun control debate.
