The Veterans Day Breakfast honors the many men and women who have served our country. In addition to honoring all who served, WHP 580 ask you to consider a donation to the CHAPEL OF THE FOUR CHAPLAINS.

The Four Chaplains, also known as the "Immortal Chaplains," are remembered for their extraordinary act of bravery and selflessness during World War II. On February 3, 1943, the U.S. Army Transport Dorchester, a converted luxury steamship, was struck by a torpedo while crossing the North Atlantic Ocean. Amid the ensuing chaos, four Army chaplains coordinated an orderly evacuation, guiding crew members to lifeboats and providing comfort and courage to the terrified men.

The chaplains, 1st Lt. George Fox, a Methodist minister, 1st Lt. Alexander Goode, a Reform rabbi, 1st Lt. Clark Poling, a Reformed Church in America minister, and 1st Lt. John Washington, a Roman Catholic priest, gave away their own life preservers when the supply ran out. They remained on the sinking ship, praying and singing hymns as it went down. Their selfless act saved many lives and serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration to this day.

The Four Chaplains Foundation, established on February 3, 1951, and dedicated by President Harry S Truman, honors the memory of these extraordinary men. The foundation promotes the ideals of interfaith cooperation, selfless service, and unity in diversity through commemoration, education, and community outreach.

The Chapel of the Four Chaplains, located in Philadelphia's historic Navy Yard, stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of selfless sacrifice and interfaith cooperation. This sacred space serves as a venue for Sunday services, private events, community outreach, and education.

The story of the Four Chaplains continues to inspire the U.S. Air Force Chaplain Corps, which provides spiritual, emotional, and mental guidance to service members. The Chaplain Corps embodies the values of selflessness demonstrated by the Four Chaplains, serving as a beacon of light in times of struggle and adversity.
