DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa (WHP) — Dauphin County officials are releasing the official cause of death for the 9-year-old girl who died at Hersheypark on Thursday while her community is revealing her identity.
On Monday, Dauphin County officials confirmed her cause of death was "fresh water drowning," and the manner was accidental.
The coroner ruled that the child did not have a medical event that caused the drowning.
The Bhutanese Community of Harrisburg (BCH) released a photo of the child, whose name was Sophia Subedi.
It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we confirm the tragic passing of Sophia Subedi, a 9-year-old member of our community, who lost her life on July 24, 2025, at Hersheypark.
The BCH stated Sophia was born in 2016 in Columbus, Ohio and lived in Harrisburg with her family since 2022.
