Detour Planned for This Coming Weekend for West Span of Market Street

Correction: Detour Planned for This Coming Weekend for West Span of Market Street Bridge Between City Island and Wormleysburg

East span between City of Harrisburg and City Island to remain open

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that a detour is planned for this coming weekend for the west span only of the Market Street Bridge connecting City Island in Dauphin County and Wormleysburg in Cumberland County. The detour will be in place so a contractor can install a temporary support system on the southwest end of the structure.

A previous release noted the entire bridge, including the east span connecting the City of Harrisburg with City Island, would be closed. Only the west span will be closed. The east span will remain open. The upstream sidewalk will remain open on the bridge, as well.

Weather permitting, work will be performed from 9:00 PM Friday, October 25, to 6:00 AM Monday, October 28. The west span of the bridge will be closed in both directions and a detour will be in place.

Westbound travelers should take 2nd Street in Harrisburg north to Forster Street, then turn left to cross river on the Harvey Taylor Bridge, turn right on 2nd Street in Wormleysburg, right on Stella Street, then right onto Route 11&15/Front Street to proceed to the west end of the Market Street Bridge.

Eastbound travelers should head north on Front Street in Wormleysburg to Elm Street, turn left on Elm Street, right on 2nd Street, right onto the Harvey Taylor Bridge to cross the river, then right onto Front Street in Harrisburg to proceed to the east end of the Market Street Bridge.

JD Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, PA, is the contractor for this work.
