DA's Office Says Harrisburg Police Shooting Was Justified

The Dauphin County District Attorney's Office has ruled that a police-involved shooting in Harrisburg last month was justified. The incident occurred on June 22nd during a traffic stop involving 39-year-old Bryan Horton. According to investigators, Horton acted as if he was pulling a gun, prompting officers to fire shots. Horton, who was wanted on felony charges, reportedly admitted that he wanted police to shoot him to avoid returning to jail. He was injured in the shooting but is now recovering in Dauphin County Prison. (pennlive.com)

The shooting involved four Harrisburg police officers near Scott Elementary School. Horton allegedly made several aggressive movements to indicate he had a gun and intended to use it. Believing Horton had a gun, the officers opened fire, hitting Horton multiple times. The officers then immediately rendered aid, saving Horton's life. He was taken to a hospital for additional treatment and later released. Horton is now being held on new felony charges and a federal detainer.
