Pennsylvania Resident Hit With State Revenue Dept. Demand For $34B In Back Taxes
(Mount Joy, PA) -- A Pennsylvania man is hoping he doesn't have to use his 900-dollar federal tax refund towards a 34-billion-dollar bill for unpaid state taxes. Barry Tangert of Mount Joy, which is about 27 miles southeast of the state capital Harrisburg, received the bill last weekend from the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue. The bill came after his tax preparer had filed an amendment earlier this year to correct an error on his 2022 return. Tangert says he's never made enough money to owe that amount in taxes. He isn't sure if the bill is the result of a "computer glitch" or an "input error." Tangert said he spoke with a Department of Revenue representative, who told him "You had a good year." Tangert said he replied "I wish."
