Allegheny voted PA's River of the Year

(Pittsburgh, PA) -- The waterway that's a key part of the Western Pennsylvania landscape -- the Allegheny River -- has been named Pennsylvania's River of the Year. The public competition hosted by the state Conservation and Natural Resources Department selected the Allegheny over the Youghiogheny River and the Lackawaxen River. The Allegheny begins as a stream in Potter County, cuts briefly through New York, and winds across six Western Pennsylvania counties before ending in Pittsburgh. Three Rivers Waterkeeper wins a ten-thousand dollar Leadership Grant to help promote a year's worth of activities celebrating the Allegheny.
