Baseball Player Dies from Injuries; Hit in Face from Illegally-Built Dugout
(Harrisburg, PA) -- An 18-year-old has died after getting injured earlier this week while helping tear down an illegally-built baseball dugout. City officials say the young man was hit in the face by part of the structure. City leaders had requested a youth baseball team to remove the dugouts, which were built at the field without the city's permission. Central Penn's college president has identified the young man as Angel Mercado, who played for the school's baseball team. The accident happened while he was playing for a Harrisburg International League baseball team. The city says their employees completed removing the dugout from the field, which was closed Wednesday morning.
